One of the strangest places I have come across recently is an atheist chat room. It is a very interesting phenomenon, where you can observe people who passionately fight against religion, yet create their own ideological constructs with a near-religious zeal.
It would seem that an atheist should be an open-minded person, free from dogmas. However, in this chat, I encountered the complete opposite: people who are extremely dogmatic, completely closed to alternative perspectives, and unshakably confident in the absolute truth of materialism.
It is fascinating how they deny the very idea that there can be something beyond material existence. For them, science has already answered everything, and any discussions about alternative perspectives are immediately ridiculed or banned.
This leads to an interesting paradox: these atheists fight against religion, but in doing so, they construct their own belief system, which functions exactly like a religion.
Eugene – The King of Snobbery
One of the most active members in the chat is Eugene. He is the ultimate embodiment of intellectual snobbery. According to him, intelligence belongs exclusively to materialists, and anyone who questions materialism is simply a fool or an ignorant dreamer.
Whenever someone tries to challenge the foundations of materialism or simply proposes an alternative viewpoint, Eugene immediately attacks them with insults, sarcasm, and an air of condescending superiority.
His behavior follows a strict pattern:
- If someone questions the scientific method, they are labeled a fool.
- If someone asks uncomfortable questions, they are accused of being irrational.
- If someone points out contradictions within materialist philosophy, their arguments are dismissed as “irrelevant nonsense.”
This kind of militant atheism is no longer about free thought. It is about absolute certainty in one’s own worldview and the aggressive defense of that position.
The irony is that people like Eugene claim to be champions of logic and reason, yet they engage in the same tactics as religious zealots: they refuse to even consider alternative views, relying instead on emotional attacks and appeals to authority.
It is not about seeking truth—it is about defending a dogma.
The Question That Must Not Be Asked
There is one question that is practically forbidden in the chat:
“What if consciousness is not just a byproduct of brain activity?”
This is an explosive topic.
The very suggestion that consciousness might exist independently of matter is enough to trigger a storm of insults, bans, and derisive laughter.
To even entertain such an idea is considered heresy in these circles. It is not that they refute it with evidence—they refuse to even discuss it.
But why?
Because if consciousness is something more than just brain activity, it means that materialism is incomplete. It means that there could be aspects of reality that science has yet to explain.
And that is terrifying to them.
Materialism as the New Religion
Modern materialists do not see their own ideology as a belief system, yet they act as if they are defending a sacred truth. They ridicule anything that contradicts their worldview, dismissing alternative ideas without serious consideration.
This is no longer scientific skepticism; this is protection of dogma, just like in any other ideology.
How does it manifest?
- If you question materialism, you are accused of being irrational.
- If you bring up scientific anomalies that challenge materialist assumptions, they are ignored or deemed “irrelevant.”
- If you mention personal experiences or phenomena that do not fit into the materialist paradigm, you are labeled “delusional.”
This is not an open discussion. This is gatekeeping.
And the irony is that these same people claim to be advocates of rationality and free thought.
But is it free thought if you are only allowed to think within strict, predetermined boundaries?
Conclusion: What Is True Freedom?
I am convinced that materialist ideology has become a new kind of religion. It demands absolute loyalty, it has its own priests (scientific authorities), and it punishes heresy (ridicule, bans, and ostracism).
True freedom is not choosing between two belief systems. True freedom is the absence of ideological constraints.
The truly free person does not simply believe in materialism or any other system—they question everything.
A free person is not afraid to explore new ideas, even if they contradict mainstream scientific consensus. They are willing to investigate, to experiment, and to consider possibilities that others refuse to acknowledge.
Most people do not realize how deeply they are programmed. They think they are thinking freely, but they are merely following the narratives set by their chosen belief system.
Only by stepping outside of these ideological structures can a person truly see the bigger picture.
And that is exactly why the materialist establishment fights so hard to keep people inside the framework of their worldview.
Because once you step outside, you can never unsee the truth.
