1. Classical Research Logic
- Reality behaves in a certain way.
- We observe facts.
- We formulate a hypothesis.
- We test the hypothesis against data.
- If they do not match, we revise the model.
This is normal epistemology:
- the model is a tool;
- reality is primary.
2. Ideological Logic
- There is an elegant, coherent model.
- It seems rational and convincing.
- Reality does not correspond to it.
- Reality is therefore declared an anomaly.
- We must wait until it “returns to normal.”
A statement such as:
“This is abnormal. It should not be this way. This is temporary insanity.”
is no longer a description but a normative judgment.
This is a model that does not allow that the world might be structured differently from what suits it.
Where the Substitution Occurs
The substitution begins when economic rationality quietly becomes an ontological law.
A model of the form:
“The modern world = rational actors + economic benefit”
begins to be perceived as the natural structure of reality.
If behavior appears that is:
- irrational;
- unprofitable;
- self-destructive,
then instead of revising the model, the behavior is dismissed as an “anomaly.”
Reality Is Not Obliged to Be Rational
History repeatedly shows:
- states act against their own interests;
- elites act contrary to economic interests;
- peoples support decisions that worsen their position;
- wars are fought for reasons other than profit.
Reality has not signed a contract with economic theory.
The Most Subtle Point: “Returning to Normal”
When someone says:
“This will end with a return to normal,”
it is assumed that the “norm” is built into the very structure of the world.
But the “norm” is usually the observer’s familiar model.
The world is not obliged to return to anyone’s model.
It may reorganize itself under new rules.
Where Mature Thought Begins
If you build a model and the world does not conform to it, there are two options:
- The world is wrong.
- The model is incomplete.
Science chooses the second.
Ideology often chooses the first.
Key Distinction
The main reversal looks like this:
instead of correcting the model in light of reality
reality is declared a temporary deviation from the model.
This is not only a political issue but a question of how thought operates:
- which is primary: a construction of meaning or factuality;
- what is corrected: the model or the picture of the world.
The research position begins where priority is given to facts, not to the convenience of a scheme.
