When someone says, “There are so many different philosophies, and it’s unclear whom to believe, while it’s impossible to empirically verify what they say,” and therefore concludes that philosophy is nonsense, the issue is actually something else entirely. The problem is not that one cannot empirically verify what a philosopher says. The problem is how one relates to it. Because the question should not be how to verify a philosopher’s statement or whether the philosopher is right or wrong. One should investigate why and how the philosopher reached these conclusions, what led them there, and try to understand that, digging deeper.
